Beginning:
The teacher will ask the students if any of them know what a Wild Animal is. The teacher will make a “Tornado of Ideas” on the board, here, the teacher will write down suggestions made by the students and her own, about what makes an animal wild. The teacher will choose to focus on the 7 facts that she would like to explore and have the students do the profile on. The teacher will then communicate to the students that they will be using computers to find facts about wild animals.
Development:
The teacher will give the computers to the students and they will use the internet to view the site www.kidsgowild.com and access the large wild animal list they possess. After selecting a wild animal and its picture, the students will then head to the “Wild Animal Facts” where they will find important and unknown information about the animal of their choice. There are many facts about the animals but the teacher wants the students to only focus on seven of these. The facts that the students will be focusing on are :
1-Name
2-Size at birth
3-Adult size
4-Life Span
5-Food (what they eat)
6-Range
7-Habitat
The students will then organize the information and make a profile of the animal in the cardboard provided by the teacher. The students will decorate their animal profile as they please.
The following link will give an example of what the profile should look like.
Conclusion: The students will finish their activity and leave it in
the classroom.
Evaluation of Assessment:
The next class day the students will read aloud their wild animal profile and explain to the class why they chose that animal. The teacher will post all the profiles on her bulletin board.
